Keep child care centers from closing for working families

To: Rep. Robinson, Sen. Cirino, Gov. DeWine

From: A constituent in Cleveland, OH

April 5

Do not pass Ohio House Bill 649 (HB 649) of the 136th General Assembly (2025-2026), titled the Child Care Fraud Prevention Act. Pubically funded child care centers are held responsible for the cost of cameras and storage of video footage. This will cause centers to close their doors to working families who rely on child care. Private pay families can't opt their child(ren) out of being recorded. Government officials should not be allowed to access the cameras whenever they want to view children. Child care licensing specialists already visit centers unannounced and audit enrollment. Ohio should not be listening to a social media influencer that will have a negative impact on Ohio's working families. Child care centers are the foundation to a child's education.
