I'm calling on you to require our state pension fund to divest from Palantir Technologies. Public employees should not have their retirement savings funding mass deportation operations and surveillance systems that target the very communities they serve.
Palantir derives over half its revenue from government contracts, including the ELITE app used by ICE agents in neighborhood sweeps and a $30 million AI system called ImmigrationOS. The company's Maven system reportedly processes strike coordinates for Pentagon missile attacks, including one that killed over 175 people at a girls' school in Iran. Teachers and medical professionals across California, New York, Maine, New Jersey, and Oregon have protested these investments.
This contradicts the ESG policies our pension funds claim to follow. CalSTRS divested from private prison companies CoreCivic and GEO Group in 2018. Amnesty International flagged Palantir's high risk of contributing to serious human rights violations in 2020. If we can exclude private prisons, we can exclude ICE contractors.
The financial case is weak too. Michael Burry argues Palantir trades at nearly 100 times expected future earnings, roughly five times the average software company. CEO Alex Karp sold $1.4 billion in shares around the 2024 election. RBC Capital calls the stock price unsustainable.
Divest our pension funds from Palantir now.
