Formal Opposition to Project Stratos and MIDA Oversight

To: Gov. Cox, Rep. Christofferson, Sen. Brammer

From: A constituent in Lehi, UT

May 4

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the Project Stratos development in Box Elder County. As a resident of the Wasatch Front, the lack of transparency in the MIDA approval process for a project of this magnitude is deeply concerning and undermines the public trust. My primary fear is the direct impact this will have on the Great Salt Lake, which is already projected to reach a critical tipping point by 2030. Building an energy-intensive data center and a massive natural gas plant near our watershed is an ecological risk we simply cannot afford to take. With experts estimating that this project could increase Utah’s carbon emissions by 50%, it represents a significant step backward for our air quality and the long-term health of our communities. While I recognize the importance of technological growth and national security, these goals must not come at the expense of our most vital natural resources. Fast-tracking such a massive development through MIDA without a comprehensive, public environmental impact analysis is irresponsible. I urge you to intervene and ensure that Project Stratos does not proceed without the rigorous environmental scrutiny and public oversight that a project of this scale requires. Please prioritize the preservation of our water and air for future generations of Utahns.
