He’s a 15-year-old kid born in Waukegan, IL and a U.S. citizen. He was waiting for the bus to school when three masked men in body armor jumped out of SUVs and chased him down as if he were a fugitive. He was tackled to the pavement after running three blocks in terror. They shouted a question: “Where were you born?” After he stammered that he was born in Waukegan, they left. No apology. No explanation. They vanished just as suddenly as they appeared. What they left behind was a traumatized teenager who now refuses to take the bus to school and cancels therapy appointments because he’s afraid to go downtown. What can they call this other than racial profiling? DHS officials said Midway Blitz would target the hardened criminals among them. “The worst of the worst.” Diego was just a teenage boy waiting for the school bus. He used to envision a future working in construction, earning a living to help his mom retire. Now he says there’s no place for him here.
