An Open Letter
To: Sen. Hawley
From: A constituent in Plattsburg, MO
April 23
I received a “response” from your office. It was NOT an answer.
You stated in part, “Thank you for contacting me about the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Israel has the unequivocal right to defend itself, and a strong, safe, and prosperous Israel is critical to U.S. national interests. It is also critical that we ensure Iran never acquires nuclear weapons. Thankfully, we now have an Administration that understands this. I am confident that President Trump will continue to contain Iran’s nuclear ambitions, advance U.S. interests, and protect our servicemen and women. By bringing peace and stability to the Middle East, the United States can avoid the risk of more endless wars and pursue a foreign policy that is truly ‘America First.’”
Let’s proceed point by point.
1. The ‘conflict’ is a WAR – see the president’s statements – and the U.S. is IN THE CONFLICT – or didn’t you notice?
2. Just WHY is Israel critical to U.S. national interest? TELL ME.
3. Last year the president stated he obliterated the Iran nuclear program and claims it’s “dust” now – so this is a red herring. He has also said we’ve WON – so why are we there?
4. You are not doing so well protecting U.S. troops now, are you? Multiple aircraft shot down, 13 killed, hundreds wounded, troops not getting fed enough, ships in need of serious maintenance. Spare me – I’m a veteran – I know b.s. when I hear it.
5. SO – IS ‘PEACE AND STABILITY’ now an objective of this WAR? I WANT TO KNOW.
6. Ask folks in your district how they feel about “America First” when you are spending nearly 2 BILLION a day on the other side of the earth. I dare you.
SO – your “response” was a FAIL – I wanted to know war objectives and why we are there if we’ve ‘won’ and you brought up other items – so answer me and try again. Try harder – your answer was insulting.
