I am deeply concerned about the growing risks to public health under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. His actions and rhetoric are drawing sharp criticism from medical experts and professional associations, raising doubts about his ability to lead an evidence-based public health agency.
On September 10, 2025, the American College of Physicians — representing 162,000 internists — publicly called for Secretary Kennedy’s removal, stating that his policies have undermined public health infrastructure, disregarded proven science, and spread dangerous misinformation. The ACP also warned that his comments and restrictions on COVID-19 vaccines reflect a troubling disregard for data and evidence.
These actions are not just policy disagreements; they threaten vaccine confidence, weaken preventive health programs, and erode trust in federal health leadership. Reports of staff departures and the restructuring of advisory committees only add to the danger of a diminished public health system at a time when we must remain prepared for future crises.
I respectfully urge you to exercise robust oversight. Please investigate recent HHS decisions, hold hearings with independent experts, and demand transparency about how public health policy is being shaped under Secretary Kennedy. It is essential that Congress ensure our nation’s health leadership remains grounded in science and capable of protecting the American people.
Thank you for your service and attention to this matter.
