Open enrollment for 2026 on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace has been open for almost a week — and millions of Americans are seeing the true costs of the Republican shutdown. Trump and Congressional Republicans have allowed subsidies from the federal government to expire and health insurance premiums are set to increase by 114% on average next year. Extending ACA subsidies to prevent health care costs from skyrocketing has been the main goal of Democrats during the government shutdown. Rep McGuire should immediately move to end this government shutdown by passing a budget deal that extends the ACA tax credits and blocks Trump’s illegal budget cuts. Congress must do its job and stop this administration’s ongoing lawlessness and authoritarian takeover.
