Urgently Legalize CBD, THC Products, and Marijuana in Wisconsin

To: Rep. Zimmerman, Sen. Stafsholt, Gov. Evers

From: A verified voter in Hudson, WI

November 13

The recent U.S. Senate-approved bill that would effectively ban the sale of intoxicating hemp products nationally has created an urgent need for Wisconsin to take action. This federal legislation threatens to close a loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill, potentially devastating our state's thriving hemp industry. As your constituent, I implore you to push for the legalization of CBD, THC products, and marijuana in Wisconsin, following the lead of our neighbor Minnesota and numerous other states. The impending federal ban would limit legal hemp products to a mere 0.4 milligrams of THC per container and prohibit them for personal use. This drastic measure would force the closure of hundreds of dispensaries, smoke shops, and cannabis bars across Wisconsin, resulting in thousands of job losses. Business owners like Mike Sickler of TerraSol Dispensary and Nick Kanavas of Batch CBD have expressed grave concerns about the potential decimation of their companies. While some Wisconsin lawmakers are pushing for a statewide ban on intoxicating hemp products, I urge you to consider the economic benefits of legalization. State Sen. Dora Drake has rightly pointed out that these products provide jobs and revenue for our state. By legalizing and regulating these substances, we can protect existing jobs, create new ones, and generate much-needed tax revenue. Local business owners, such as John Kashou of Kangaroo Brands, support implementing common-sense regulations like testing requirements, clear labeling, and age restrictions. These measures would ensure consumer safety while allowing the industry to thrive. By acting swiftly to legalize and regulate CBD, THC products, and marijuana, Wisconsin can position itself as a leader in this growing market, rather than falling behind our neighboring states. The clock is ticking. With the federal bill expected to be signed by the president, we must act now to protect Wisconsin's businesses and workers. I urge you to introduce or support legislation that would legalize and regulate these products in our state. This proactive approach would safeguard jobs, boost our economy, and provide a regulated framework for safe consumption. Please don't let Wisconsin miss this crucial opportunity for economic growth and progressive policy-making.
