A 2023 University of Maryland study found 86% of Americans (left, right, and everywhere in between) say lawmakers should be banned from trading individual stocks. This is one of the rare issues where Democrats and Republicans actually agree. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R) have already teamed up on the Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act, and a growing coalition from both parties is pushing to merge competing bills into a consensus ban. Please pass this bill. Prohibit members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks. Stop betting on the game you’re supposed to referee.
