Concerns About Virginia’s Future and Leadership

To: Gov. Youngkin

From: A constituent in Purcellville, VA

August 28, 2025

I am writing to share my deep concerns about the direction of Virginia’s leadership and the recent political alignment between your office and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears with former President Donald Trump. Virginia’s motto, “Sic Semper Tyrannis”—“Thus Always to Tyrants”—is a declaration against the abuse of power and a reminder that our Commonwealth was founded on the principle of resisting tyranny in all its forms. By aligning with policies and rhetoric associated with the Trump agenda, you are not upholding this legacy. Instead, Virginia risks moving toward greater political division, weakened checks and balances, and diminished trust in our government. Our citizens deserve leaders who uphold the spirit of that motto—championing fairness, transparency, and accountability. Virginians want responsible governance that prioritizes economic opportunity, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. What we do not need is leadership that elevates national partisan agendas above the well-being of the people you were elected to serve. For these reasons, I cannot support Lieutenant Governor Sears in her bid for higher office, and I will not be voting for her. Virginia deserves leaders who are independent, principled, and committed to serving the Commonwealth rather than following the dictates of national figures. I urge you to reconsider this path and lead in a manner that honors Virginia’s history and values. Our Commonwealth deserves leadership rooted in balance, responsibility, and respect for all.
