Rescind visa revocations for international students at US universities

The Trump administration's decision to revoke visas and order self-deportation for over 20 international students at the University of Utah, and potentially hundreds more across the country, is deeply concerning. These students have followed all legal requirements, maintaining their enrollment status and avoiding any serious violations. Revoking their visas without due process or clear justification disrupts their academic pursuits and careers in an unjustifiable manner. This heavy-handed approach targeting students from specific regions like China, the Middle East and Southeast Asia raises troubling questions about discriminatory motivations behind these actions. Universities rely on the diversity of perspectives and talents that international students bring to enrich the academic environment. Abruptly removing these valued members of campus communities harms not just the impacted individuals, but the institutions themselves. I urge you to take immediate steps to rescind these visa revocations and allow impacted students to continue their studies uninterrupted. Furthermore, clear guidelines should be established to prevent such arbitrary disruptions to students legally residing and pursuing their education in the United States in the future. Our institutions of higher learning must remain open and welcoming environments that foster academic freedom and cross-cultural exchange.
