I am writing to you in outrage over the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live by ABC. This decision is not an isolated corporate choice — it is the direct result of interference by the Federal Communications Commission, which has acted in ways that actively impede free speech in service of a far-right political agenda.
The FCC’s role in this matter is not one of passive complacency; it is one of direct culpability. By pressuring broadcasters and manipulating regulatory power, the FCC has abandoned its duty to safeguard the free and open exchange of ideas. Instead, it has weaponized its authority to silence dissenting voices, punish satire, and stifle criticism of political figures. Such actions are in open violation of the First Amendment and represent a dangerous assault on democratic principles.
This abuse of power is not accidental — it is part of a deliberate effort by the Trump administration and its allies to control public discourse, censor opposition, and erode the independence of the press. The FCC has become an instrument of authoritarianism rather than a guardian of liberty.
I demand immediate action from you and your colleagues:
1. Move to remove the current head of the FCC, who has willfully allowed the Commission to be hijacked for partisan purposes.
2. Begin proceedings for the impeachment and removal of Donald Trump, whose administration has repeatedly trampled constitutional protections, weaponized federal agencies, and undermined the very freedoms it is sworn to uphold.
Silencing a satirical program may seem a minor act, but it sets a precedent that cannot be ignored. Every authoritarian regime in history has begun its consolidation of power by silencing critics, restricting art and commentary, and bending media to its will. If Congress fails to act now, it will be complicit in allowing this erosion of liberty to accelerate.
I implore you to treat this with the urgency it demands. The American people expect their elected representatives to defend the Constitution — not to stand idle while it is dismantled.
