I strongly support a Judiciary Act that would expand the Supreme Court by adding four additional justices. As you know, The Judiciary Act would expand the Supreme Court from nine to 13 justices. If enacted during this Congress, those four justices would be nominated by President Joe Biden and subject to confirmation by a Democratic-led Senate, likely leading to four more left-leaning justices.
In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that the current composition of the Court does not reflect the diversity of perspectives or uphold the democratic values that are essential to a fair and just society. Expanding the Court is a necessary step toward restoring balance and credibility in our judicial system.
For decades, the Supreme Court has been a critical force in shaping policies that affect every American. However, the Court’s current makeup has, at times, resulted in decisions that do not align with the will of the majority. Expanding the Court would allow for a broader range of viewpoints and reduce the influence of any single political ideology. This measure would help ensure that the Court is more representative of the American people and more responsive to the issues we face today.
The addition of four justices would also counterbalance recent shifts that have made the Court’s decisions increasingly polarized. A more balanced Court could strengthen public trust in the judiciary by showing that our highest court can reflect the nation's diversity of thought and experience rather than being tied to any particular partisan agenda.
I urge you to support the Judiciary Act and the expansion of the Supreme Court. By doing so, we can help protect our democracy, preserve judicial integrity, and ensure that our legal system remains a fair and impartial institution for all Americans.
Thank you for considering this important legislation, and I hope you will work to move it forward.
