An Open Letter

To: Sen. Chaudhuri, Rep. Longest

From: A constituent in Raleigh, NC

October 21

Hello, I am a resident of North Carolina and I vote. I am writing to protest the redistricting — which is stated to give a majority to to the minority of voters in this state. We've been doing these redistricting battles regularly since I moved here 50 years ago. Starting in the 80s, I was behind a computer screen publishing these maps in a publication called Article |I : A Guide to the North Carolina Legislature. Every other year, the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research would create this publication to give citizens a guide to who was who, how they voted, sample bills, and committee assignments. Amazingly there was a market for this publication, some by lobbyists, but many by concerned citizens. Nowadays this seems like a fantasy. Now these redistricting debates seem more like a volleyball game, than a public policy exercise in representation. I am writing to support the cause of NO to redistricting. NO NO NO. It is wrong, it is a further power grab. And our democracy depends on us standing up for what is right, and done correctly. Power grabs like this never work out for the better. The end does not justify the means. The means leads to a better end. For all of us. Thank you for your representation of us.
