Keep FEMA Free From Political Interference

To: Rep. McClellan, Sen. Kaine, Sen. Warner

From: A constituent in North Chesterfield, VA

July 9

FEMA must remain a nonpartisan agency focused solely on disaster response — and I expect you to defend that mission against any effort to politicize it. When disaster strikes, the speed and fairness of federal relief should depend on the severity of the damage, not on which party controls a state or county. Any deviation from that standard costs lives and destroys trust in government at the exact moment people need it most. Disaster survivors don't have the luxury of waiting out political games. They need food, shelter, and recovery funds now. I'm watching how you respond to this issue, and I'll be holding you accountable for whether FEMA stays focused on its core mission or gets turned into a political tool.
