I urge you to oppose H.R. 10186, the misnamed "Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act." This discriminatory legislation would prohibit transgender individuals from accessing restrooms, locker rooms, and changing facilities that align with their gender identity on federal property. By mandating that people can only use facilities matching the "biological sex" assigned to them at birth, this bill promotes harmful prejudices and denies the basic dignity and rights of transgender Americans. Transgender people face disproportionately high rates of harassment, violence, and discrimination simply for being who they are. Forcing them to use facilities that conflict with their identity further stigmatizes and endangers this already vulnerable group. Instead of perpetuating injustice, we should be promoting policies of inclusion, respect, and equal treatment under the law for all citizens, regardless of gender identity or expression. This legislation is unconstitutional, unethical, and lacks any rational basis for improving public safety or privacy. It serves only to codify discrimination under the guise of "protecting women." True protection means ensuring every person can access public accommodations without fear of being demeaned, harassed, or subjected to invasive questioning about their bodies or identities. I strongly urge you to vote no on H.R. 10186. We must reject measures that enable prejudice and undermine the fundamental American principles of equality and human dignity. Our laws should unite us as a nation, not divide us along arbitrary lines. Upholding the rights of transgender people makes our society more just and inclusive for everyone.
