I believe deeply in the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which together form the foundation of our freedoms and our system of government. The protections laid out in the Bill of Rights, due process, equal protection under the law, freedom from government overreach, are not optional. They are essential. I am increasingly concerned that the balance of power established by the Constitution is being weakened, and that Congress is not consistently acting as a strong check on the executive branch when those rights are threatened. I am pro-choice and believe reproductive healthcare decisions must remain between individuals and their doctors, free from federal interference. I strongly support universal healthcare and believe Congress must take meaningful action to ensure healthcare is accessible and affordable for all Americans. I stand with our healthcare workers who continue to carry the burden of a broken system. I support our veterans and expect Congress to fully fund veterans’ healthcare, housing, and benefits. I also support our active-duty military, law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders who serve honorably and uphold the Constitution. I am deeply troubled by the use of federal agencies, including ICE and the Department of Justice, in ways that appear to violate constitutional protections or serve political purposes. Illegal or unconstitutional raids, as well as the politicization of the DOJ, are unacceptable in a democratic society and must be confronted by Congress through oversight and accountability. As a public school teacher, I am calling on Congress to prioritize funding for public education, children, and families. I am also opposed to spending billions of taxpayer dollars on foreign aid while critical needs at home, healthcare, education, housing, veterans’ services, and infrastructure, remain unmet. I expect my representatives in Congress to act independently, uphold the Constitution, and fight for the American people rather than any administration or political party. I will be watching closely to see whether Congress chooses courage over complacency.
