Protect Alliances and Oppose Threats to Allied Nations

To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody, Rep. Buchanan

From: A verified voter in Bradenton, FL

January 26

I am writing to urge you to take a firm stand against threats directed at our closest allies. The stability of our international partnerships is fundamental to American security and prosperity, and I believe it is time for Congress to assert its constitutional role in foreign policy. Our alliances with democratic nations have been the cornerstone of American security architecture since World War II. These partnerships provide us with intelligence sharing, military cooperation, and economic stability that directly benefit your constituents. When these relationships are undermined through threats or coercion, it weakens our national security posture and damages our credibility on the world stage. I recognize that foreign policy often involves complex negotiations, but threatening allied nations crosses a line that should concern members of both parties. Our allies need to know they can rely on American consistency and partnership. When that trust erodes, it creates openings for adversaries and makes future cooperation more difficult and costly. Congress has significant tools at its disposal to shape foreign policy. You can pass resolutions affirming our commitment to allies, condition certain executive actions on consultation with Congress, and use appropriations authority to reinforce diplomatic priorities. I am asking you to use these powers now. The American people benefit directly from strong alliances through enhanced security, expanded trade opportunities, and shared burden in addressing global challenges. Your constituents deserve leadership that protects these vital relationships rather than jeopardizing them. I urge you to publicly oppose threats to allied nations and work with colleagues across the aisle to establish clear guardrails that protect our international partnerships. This is not a partisan issue but a matter of American interests and values. I hope I can count on you to stand up for the alliances that keep us safe and prosperous.
