I am writing to ask you to oppose the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General of the United States. He is not only grossly unqualified, but he either fails to understand the role of the Attorney General, or he deliberately flauts it. Either renders him unsuitable for the position, but also appear to be the reasons that the President chose him. As you know, the Attorney General’s core duties are to uphold the rule of law, to keep our country safe, and to protect our civil rights. Although they are nominated by the President, the Attorney General is not the President’s personal lawyer. They take an oath of loyalty to the Constitution—not to the President. They are supposed to be America's lawyer. I oppose Blanche’s confirmation as Attorney General and ask that you do the same. Blanche has approved and even personally facilitated many of the worst abuses of the justice system in history, including Trump’s IRS lawsuit; his refusal to comply with court orders regarding the Epstein files, as well as his his publicizing the names of Epstein's victims, thus victimizing them all over again; the prison transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell; the vindictive prosecution of Kilmar Abrego Garcia; illegal purges of career DOJ lawyers; and politically motivated investigations and prosecutions of numerous Trump enemies. As the world's regard for the U.S. sinks, opposing Blanche's nomination for AG would be a significant demonstration to the people of this country, and the world, that Americans are decent, that the rule of law matters, and that our senators understand that.
