A question for the governor in his final days

To: Gov. Youngkin

From: A constituent in Pamplin, VA

November 30

I am writing to you as a professional who works closely with grieving families, children, and vulnerable community members, and as a parent and citizen of the Commonwealth. As your governorship comes to an end, I feel a responsibility to express a deep and urgent concern regarding your continued, unwavering support for President Donald Trump. Over the past year, I have written to your office several times regarding this issue. Each response I have received has indicated steadfast support for the president, regardless of his conduct. I am writing again because the recent rhetoric coming from Mr. Trump is not simply political. It is dangerous, dehumanizing, and profoundly harmful. His use of ableist slurs, including the “R” word, is inexcusable. As someone who advocates for dignity, mental health, and compassionate communication; especially for children and individuals with disabilities; this language is not just offensive but damaging. It normalizes cruelty, encourages stigma, and directly contradicts the values of respect and inclusion that leaders of our Commonwealth should uphold. Furthermore, his calls for the execution of sitting members of Congress represent an alarming abandonment of democratic principles and a threat to the safety of elected officials. Regardless of party, violent rhetoric has no place in public leadership. It places real people in danger and undermines the stability of our institutions. Given the gravity of these statements and their implications for the wellbeing of families, communities, and our democracy, I am asking directly and unequivocally: Do you continue to support President Trump despite this rhetoric? And if so, I respectfully request a clear explanation for how such support aligns with the values and responsibilities of public service in Virginia. As both a professional committed to the emotional health of families and a parent raising children to value respect, empathy, and accountability, I find silence or dismissal on these matters unacceptable. I expect and respectfully request a direct response to these concerns. Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter.
