As a deeply concerned resident of Colorado, I am writing to urge you to take bold and immediate action in response to the federalgovernment’s dangerous reallocation of resources and abandonment of its responsibilities to the American people.
Recent and proposed federal cuts to essential services—including FEMA disaster relief, Medicaid, and other critical safety nets—are putting Coloradans at risk. At the same time, funding has been increased for punitive enforcement mechanisms like ICE, which continues to terrorize communities, separate families, and operate with limited oversight.
This federal government is actively undermining public health, disaster preparedness, and human rights while weaponizing agencies against our communities. If Colorado continues to send billions in federal tax dollars to Washington while receiving fewer and fewer vital services in return, we are complicit in our own neglect.
I urge you to explore and advocate for the following:
Temporarily suspending or escrowing Colorado’s federal tax contributions until such time as federal obligations to our residents are honored in good faith.
Creating and leading a coalition of governors from like-minded states—states that are also suffering under these reckless federal policies—to signal economic strength and coordinated resistance.
Redirecting withheld federal funds toward supporting emergency services, healthcare, education, and infrastructure at the state level.
Colorado deserves better, and I believe our state can set a powerful example for how to push back when the federal government abandons its duties.
I hope you will rise to this historic moment and stand with the people of Colorado against this injustice.
