Subject: Save BorrowIT funding
To: Gov. Lamont
From: A constituent in Newington, CT
February 10
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed 20% reduction in funding for the BorrowIT (formerly Connecticard) program in the Governor’s budget. This program is a vital resource for Connecticut residents, providing cost-effective access to library materials across the state and ensuring that municipal services remain robust and equitable. BorrowIT funding supports the seamless sharing of library materials between communities, enabling residents to access a far broader range of educational and cultural resources than any single library could offer on its own. Reducing these funds will have a direct impact on families, students, and lifelong learners who rely on the program for research, school projects, and personal enrichment. With over $4 billion in the state’s reserves, cutting this modest but impactful program represents a step backward in our commitment to community services and education. BorrowIT has long been a model of efficiency and collaboration, and it strengthens the very fabric of our towns and cities by fostering literacy and information access. I respectfully urge you to reconsider this proposed cut and to maintain full funding for the BorrowIT program. Preserving this service is an investment in our residents, our libraries, and the shared knowledge that benefits all of Connecticut.
