No to Hakeem Jeffries!
To: Rep. Foushee
From: A constituent in Pittsboro, NC
November 5
I am writing to urge you in the strongest possible terms NOT to vote for Hakeem Jeffries as the next Speaker of the House. While it would certainly be historic to have the first Black man serve as Speaker, symbolism cannot take precedence over leadership, accountability, and the direction of our party. Hakeem Jeffries is not the leader Democrats need for this moment. His leadership has failed to meet the challenges before us, and the message from voters in the midterm elections should not be ignored or dismissed. Democrats received a clear message from the electorate. The political landscape has changed dramatically over the past four years, and our party cannot continue operating as though nothing has changed. We need leadership that understands the frustration of working people, stands up to corporate interests, and is willing to challenge powerful special interests rather than accommodate them. Jeffries’ close ties to AIPAC and corporate PAC money raise serious questions about whose interests he will ultimately represent. We cannot claim to be fighting for democracy and working families while elevating leaders whose political allegiances appear so closely tied to wealthy donors and special interests. And Representative Foushee, I would remind you of your own primary race, when you came dangerously close to losing. Your reliance on PAC money was an issue that voters noticed. That should be a reminder that constituents are paying attention and increasingly expect accountability from their elected representatives. Please do not mistake a historic opportunity for the right political decision. We do not need a Speaker chosen because of symbolism or party loyalty. We need someone with the judgment, independence, and courage to recognize this political moment and respond to what voters are demanding. I want to be very clear: No to Hakeem Jeffries. Do not give him your vote. We are watching closely, and we will not remain silent if our representatives ignore the voices of their constituents. Your vote for Speaker is a reflection of your priorities and whom you believe you are accountable to. I hope you choose your constituents over party leadership, corporate donors, and political insiders.
