Don’t Allow Gerrymandering in Missouri

To: Sen. Webber, Rep. Steinhoff, Gov. Kehoe

From: A verified voter in Columbia, MO

September 7

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose any attempts to redraw Missouri’s congressional districts in a way that undermines fair representation and weakens the voice of our communities. Redistricting should be a transparent, impartial process that reflects the will of the people—not a tool for political gain. Missourians deserve congressional districts that are compact, contiguous, and represent the true makeup of our population. Manipulating district boundaries for partisan advantage—commonly known as gerrymandering—damages public trust in our democratic institutions and dilutes the power of voters. We’ve seen how unfair redistricting can lead to uncompetitive elections, extreme partisanship, and a lack of accountability. Missouri voters have already spoken in favor of fair and independent redistricting through prior ballot initiatives, and any move to reverse this progress would be a direct rejection of the will of the people. I strongly urge you to: • Oppose any partisan or non-transparent efforts to redraw congressional lines. • Support independent and nonpartisan redistricting practices that protect community representation. • Ensure public input and oversight are central to any redistricting process. Our democracy is strongest when every vote counts equally, and every community has a fair opportunity to elect representatives who reflect their values and needs. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I hope I can count on your leadership to protect the integrity of Missouri’s electoral process.
