Protect USAID, Uphold Global Leadership and American Values
To: Sen. Hassan, Sen. Shaheen

February 3
Elon Musk's plans to dismantle USAID, the world's largest foreign aid agency, are deeply concerning. USAID provides vital assistance globally for critical issues like women's health, clean water access, HIV/AIDS treatment, energy security, and anti-corruption efforts. Shutting it down would have severe humanitarian consequences and undermine America's global leadership. Furthermore, Musk's claims of rampant fraud within government systems lack evidence and his estimate of cutting $1 trillion from the deficit seems unfounded. Giving an unelected individual like Musk unchecked power to gut agencies and access sensitive data systems raises serious ethical and legal questions about abuse of power. I urge you to take immediate action to rein in Musk's overreach and protect USAID's essential work. American citizens did not vote for Musk to unilaterally dismantle our government and foreign policy apparatus based on unsubstantiated claims. Preserving USAID upholds American values of compassion and upholding human rights worldwide. Responsible oversight is paramount to safeguard our democracy and global standing.
