I am becoming increasingly concerned with the brazen power grab perpetrated by Donald Trump through Elon Musk. I think we can all agree that cutting unnecessary government spending or creating efficiencies are universally desired - Men and women of good faith can disagree on priorities and how to get there - but legally, that should be done through budget analysis, auditing, and then debate on the floor of the House and Senate. The Power of the Purse is held by the House, clearly laid out in our constitution, in order to check an executive branch from behaving exactly like it has been in the last week. Elon Musk is an unelected private citizen who has been illegally given unprecedented power. He has not been vetted or given security clearances through the proper channels. He has gained access to every American’s personal data under the guise of DOGE. As you know, only Congress can establish new agencies through Enabling Acts and only Congress can defund and dismantle government agencies like USAID. There is so much wrong going on here and you, who swore to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic, should be very, very upset about what is going on. Truly, what is happening is beyond personal politics. Donald Trump is testing all of us to see how much he can get away with and I need you, as my representative, to stand up for the constitution. Please do not let your personal faith in Trump become blind to the universal principles of our constitution that allowed him to gain power in the first place. Thank you of your consideration.
