I have been watching my sister, who needs a biopsy, try to get an appointment for OVER a week. First, the doctors don’t just send it somewhere. She had to figure out where to send her records and then get them sent. Then she had to call and call and call to get an appointment and now she making more calls to see if the appointment that she made will be covered by her health insurance. She is doing all this as she worries that she has cancer; as she worries about leaving her children motherless. Our health system sucks!!! It gives sick people two additional unpaid jobs 1) to fight to get treated and 2) to get their insurance to cover something. Why does it suck so much? Why is it such a cluster when we pay so much for it? I’m sitting here in tears as my sister who is fully insured battles not cancer but our own health system to try to get treatment. I agree one system isn’t the answer but the current system is deeply flawed and needs to be fixed … today.
