An Open Letter

The Constitution Is on the Line — You Must Enforce Your Ruling and Stop This Slide Into Authoritarianism To the Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, I write to you as a citizen of this country who still believes in the rule of law, in checks and balances, and in the idea that no one—not even a president—is above the Constitution. You ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an innocent Maryland father who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, must be returned to the United States. The Trump administration admitted his deportation was an “administrative error,” and yet now refuses to correct that error. Instead, they stand next to El Salvador’s authoritarian president and smear this man as a “terrorist”—a man who was never a threat and was granted legal protection by U.S. courts years ago. Worse still, Trump has openly stated his willingness to send American citizens to foreign prisons. He told President Bukele, “The homegrowns are next.” There is no constitutional justification for this. It is unlawful, immoral, and authoritarian. It echoes one of the very grievances in the Declaration of Independence: “transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.” Your ruling must mean something. The Constitution must mean something. If the executive branch is allowed to ignore your decisions with impunity—what recourse remains for the people? You are the last line of defense between democracy and dictatorship. This is not a policy disagreement. This is about the survival of constitutional government. We are rapidly reaching a point where the executive is claiming unchecked power—disregarding judicial oversight, branding innocents as terrorists, and threatening to imprison citizens abroad. Please do not let this moment pass in silence. Enforce your ruling. Compel the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Reaffirm that the judiciary is not merely symbolic, but a co-equal branch of government with real authority. I am not just asking for legal action—I am asking for human decency. Please, do your duty. Defend the Constitution. Protect due process. Draw the line before it’s too late.
