Rethink the DHS

To: Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick, Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A verified voter in Sunrise, FL

February 26

The entire structure and purpose of the ominously named Department of Homeland Security must be thoroughly reviewed, and its mandate and mission severely curtailed back to standards much closer to those which existed prior to 2001. As the son of a man who served as a U.S. Marshal, Border Patrol officer, and Immigration Inspector during the 60's and 70's, I heard firsthand stories of how even then the powers of the state were casually abused. With the far greater powers Congress has granted these successor agencies this century, we are witnessing how they have transformed into modern forms of the Nazi brownshirts and other violent, oppressive, and murderous law enforcement gangs of recent human history. Do not increase their funding and begin the process of reducing their funding, mandate, and scope of their missions. Our true freedom and strength depends in large part upon ending the reign of terror, intimidation, murder, and abuse DHS has inflicted upon the public, guilty and innocent alike, since its ill conceived inception and unleashing on the nation.
