Overturn wrongful conviction of Marcellus Williams
To: Gov. Youngkin
From: A verified voter in North Chesterfield, VA
September 20
There is overwhelming evidence casting doubt on Marcellus Williams' conviction and death sentence for the 1998 murder. The state destroyed or corrupted key forensic evidence that could have proven his innocence. The remaining DNA and forensic evidence from the crime scene does not match Williams. The prosecution's case rested entirely on the testimony of two incentivized witnesses, a leading cause of wrongful convictions. Given the lack of reliable evidence, the extreme doubts surrounding his guilt, and the opposition from the victim's family to his execution, it is crucial that Williams' conviction and death sentence be vacated. Proceeding with his execution on September 24th risks taking an innocent life, a grave miscarriage of justice. I implore you to intervene and ensure Williams' conviction is overturned so he has the opportunity to prove his innocence through further investigation and judicial review.
