Support the VISIBLE Act, Uphold Transparency and Due Process

I’m writing to urge you to support the VISIBLE Act, a critical step toward protecting civil liberties and restoring public trust in our immigration enforcement system. Federal agents, including those with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), should be held to the same standards of accountability as all other law enforcement agencies. When ICE officers operate without identifying themselves, often in unmarked vehicles and plain clothes, it erodes the foundation of due process and transparency that our democracy is built on. We do not live in an authoritarian country—nor should we act like one. Disappearing people off the street, denying them access to legal representation, or detaining them without clear identification of authority is behavior we associate with repressive regimes, not the United States of America. If ICE has nothing to hide, they should have no objection to clearly identifying themselves and their actions. The VISIBLE Act would help ensure that federal immigration officers are required to identify themselves and their agency affiliation while carrying out enforcement activities. This is not only reasonable—it is essential. It protects the public, preserves the rule of law, and upholds the values that separate democracy from tyranny. Authoritarianism doesn’t arrive overnight, it creeps in through practices that normalize secrecy, fear, and unchecked power. Congress must not allow that to happen on our soil. Please support and advocate for the passage of the VISIBLE Act.
