An Open Letter

To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd, Rep. Harrigan

From: A constituent in Winston Salem, NC

May 1

Republican members of Congress have a constitutional duty to act as a co-equal branch of government and serve as a check on executive overreach. By ceding their constitutional authorities to the president, they are abdicating their sworn responsibilities to uphold and defend the Constitution. As a constituent, I urge you to fulfill your oath of office by exercising meaningful oversight over the executive branch. Failing to do so undermines the system of checks and balances at the heart of our democracy. Stand up for the rule of law and our democratic institutions by holding President Trump accountable for any unlawful actions through your legislative powers. The integrity of our government depends on Congress asserting its role as a co-equal branch, rather than enabling authoritarian behavior. I expect you to put country over party and demonstrate the political courage to confront wrongdoing.
