I am writing to express my very deep concern over the militarization of Washington D.C. I to urge you to take immediate action to prevent Ohio's National Guard from being deployed to the nation's capital. This situation, is a dangerous overreach of federal power and threatens the principles of local governance and civil liberties. President Trump's justification for this military surge is based on false claims of a crime crisis in D.C. Experts have debunked these as lies, and in fact, crime in Washington has decreased significantly in recent years. Despite this, over 300 arrests have been made in less than ten days, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of these actions. The deployment of National Guard troops and federal agents to conduct 'roving patrols' on city streets is just the same as authoritarian tactics and has no place in our democracy. The White House's attempt to install a federal official as an 'emergency police chief' - thankfully blocked by a lawsuit - further demonstrates the administration's disregard for local autonomy. As your constituent from Maineville, OH, I implore you to take immediate action to remove Ohio's National Guard from participating in this unjustified and potentially dangerous operation. Our state's resources should not be used to support what many critics are calling a 'police state' in our nation's capital. Furthermore, I urge you to speak out against this federal overreach and support efforts to end the militarization of D.C. This situation is causing significant anxiety among residents, particularly as the school year approaches. We must stand up for the rights of D.C. residents and the principles of local governance. Time is of the essence. Each day this unauthorized occupation continues, it further erodes public trust and threatens the fabric of our democracy. Please act swiftly to ensure Ohio does not contribute to this alarming abuse of federal power. Our state should stand for democracy and the rule of law, not participate in manufactured crises that undermine both.
