Preserve Medicaid for Hoosiers' healthcare access

The ongoing budget discussions in Congress pose a grave threat to health care access for hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers. A recent study estimates that if the federal government cuts funding for Indiana's Medicaid expansion program (the Healthy Indiana Plan), up to 366,000 residents could lose their health insurance coverage. This would lead to a staggering 75% increase in the state's uninsured population. Those at risk of losing coverage are not just statistics - they are hardworking Hoosiers like single parents, service industry workers, and young adults struggling to make ends meet. For many, the Healthy Indiana Plan is their only pathway to affordable health care. Losing this vital program would be devastating, forcing individuals to forgo necessary medical treatment and preventive care. While efforts to rein in federal spending are understandable, slashing Medicaid funding is an unacceptable approach that will jeopardize the well-being of our most vulnerable citizens. Indiana's healthcare system and economy cannot withstand such a massive influx of uninsured residents. I urge you to prioritize the health and financial security of Hoosier families. Reject any proposed cuts to Medicaid that would undermine our state's ability to provide comprehensive and affordable coverage. Our constituents deserve access to quality healthcare, regardless of their income level. It is imperative that we explore solutions that strengthen, not dismantle, this critical safety net program.
