Support Sen. Kaine’s Resolution Against US Armed Forces in Iran

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Raskin

From: A constituent in Takoma Park, MD

June 16

I write to urge my senators to support Sen. Tim Kaine’s resolution to “remove US Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran” unless and until authorized by Congress. It’s my understanding that this resolution may be taken up soon. Despite decades of pervasive assumptions that Iran is our enemy, and that the US would somehow benefit if it was fundamentally altered, please consider that the US has nothing to gain from committing itself to a war with Iran. Israel launched the first bombs mere days before US-Iran talks on the latter’s nuclear program. It is very hard to imagine what the US could possibly gain from another long-term conflict with no clear preferred outcome, especially with the current Israeli government. Perhaps most importantly, Congress must maintain its powers to check the executive branch on every issue, but authorizations like these most of all. Please support Sen. Kaine’s resolution, and Rep. Raskin, please encourage others to do the same. Thank you.
