Regulate The Big AI Companies

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A verified voter in Ellicott City, MD

July 11

Senator, I think we might have temporarily dodged one of the many disasters in the OBBB. I speak of course of AI regulation, thankfully the moratorium has been removed and states can regulate AI. However, a patchwork of state regulations has never been enough to protect Americans from reckless companies and what we really need is national legislation. It seems with the removal of the AI regulation moratorium that at least some Republicans agree that regulation is needed too. Now is the time to pass this regulation, before the AI systems become too advanced. Therefore, I ask that you reach out across the aisle and work in a bipartisan way to create regulations of AI programs and further create policies or plans for how to proceed when AI advances. This is a technology like social media and the internet that will revolutionize the economy and we cannot be caught unprepared.
