I am writing to urge you to oppose the nomination of Todd Blanche for Attorney General. The Attorney General must be committed above all to upholding the Constitution, enforcing the law impartially, and maintaining the independence of the Department of Justice. I am concerned that Mr. Blanche's close relationship with President Trump and his actions as the President's personal attorney raise serious questions about whether he could serve independently and without political influence. Our justice system depends on public confidence that no one is above the law and that legal decisions are based on facts and the Constitution—not loyalty to any individual. I believe this nomination risks undermining that confidence. I respectfully ask that you vote against Todd Blanche's confirmation and support an Attorney General who will protect the rule of law and serve all Americans fairly.
