I am writing to express my deep concern over the disturbing events that took place at the Kootenai County Republican town hall. The video showing Teresa Borrenpohl being forcibly removed raises serious concerns about the suppression of free speech and the erosion of First Amendment rights in Idaho.
Public forums should be spaces where constituents can engage with their elected officials, ask questions, and express concerns without fear of physical removal or intimidation. The actions taken at this event suggest a dangerous precedent where political leaders and private security dictate who is allowed to participate in democratic discourse. This is not the Idaho I want for my family or my community.
I urge you to take a stand against such abuses of power. Please publicly condemn these actions, push for greater accountability in public forums, and ensure that all Idahoans—regardless of political affiliation—can exercise their constitutional rights without fear of retaliation.
Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of our democracy. I hope to see swift and decisive leadership on this issue to protect the rights of all Idahoans. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
