Veto SB1142 and Reject Trump's Federal Voucher Scam

To: Gov. Hobbs

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

April 13

Veto SB1142. This bill would make Arizona one of the first states to sign up for Trump's federal voucher program, a scheme designed as a tax giveaway for the rich that will funnel billions of dollars to private schools with zero accountability to taxpayers. Like Arizona's ESA and STO vouchers, this federal program is designed to benefit wealthier students already in private schools. The federal voucher program has no cap, meaning it could drain unlimited public funds to private institutions already receiving state tax dollars through state vouchers. We'd be double-dipping into taxpayer money to subsidize families who have already chosen private education. SB1142, sponsored by Shawnna Bolick, is fiscally irresponsible and lacks any meaningful oversight. Arizona taxpayers deserve to know where their money goes and whether it's actually improving education outcomes. This bill offers neither transparency nor accountability. Don't let Arizona become a testing ground for a federal program that prioritizes wealthy families over public education funding.
