Oppose Bill Threatening Internet Freedom and Free Speech
To: Rep. Gutierrez, Rep. Mathis
From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ
September 3
This bill, SB1125, introduces unnecessary censorship and infringes on internet freedom by forcing websites to implement stringent age verification measures. It unfairly penalizes websites with vague criteria of what constitutes "harmful to minors" content, even if that content represents less than two-thirds of the site. Holding websites liable for damages and court costs over subjective standards is an overreach that will lead to self-censorship and the stifling of legal online expression. This bill poses a threat to the open internet and must be opposed to protect digital rights and free speech. I urge you to vote against this misguided legislation that will do more harm than good.
