Pass Statewide DarkSky Responsible Outdoor Lighting Legislation

To: Gov. Ferguson, Rep. Lekanoff, Rep. Ramel, Sen. Lovelett

From: A verified voter in Burlington, WA

October 28

Pass and support statewide adoption of the DarkSky State Act for Responsible Outdoor Lighting. DarkSky International has already developed a free, ready-to-adopt template drafted with lighting designers, environmental ecologists, and city planners. There is no reason to delay. Light pollution harms wildlife, degrades our environment, and erodes the character of our communities. The AIA supports responsible outdoor lighting advocacy, and adopting this code puts policy behind that professional consensus. Washington should honor its Evergreen State identity and protect its salmon with legislation that delivers on both. Other states are already earning DarkSky recognition while we wait. This code is practical, enforceable, and ready to go. Please pass it.
