Vote to remove Section 219 from the NDAA. This provision — the so-called "United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative" — would permanently merge U.S. and Israeli military systems, mandate intelligence sharing, and strip future presidents of the ability to limit that collaboration even in response to human rights abuses. It is being buried in a must-pass defense bill precisely because it could never survive a standalone vote.
The American public has shifted dramatically on this issue. Pew data shows 60% of adults now hold an unfavorable view of Israel, up from 42% in 2022. That includes 57% of young Republicans and 84% of young Democrats. Rep. Adam Smith, ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, withdrew his support and pledged to vote to strip the provision from the floor. He was right to do so. Once joint weapons development and intelligence infrastructure are written into law, no future Congress will easily undo them. This is a permanent strategic commitment being made without a real debate, and my vote — and my community's — will reflect whether you stood up to stop it.
