Just as predicted, President Trump's tariff war is destabilizing the stock market and putting many Americans' retirement portfolios at risk. My senior mother depends on her social security, Medicare, and her investment portfolio to maintain her independence. She - and her children - are now worried about what this volatile market means for her quality of life in her golden years. Will she be able to maintain the independence she has worked hard for? Or will it all be swept away in Trump's unstable and overly expensive economy? Will she be forced to move in with her children, saving any disposable income for potential healthcare needs? Will she have to go back to work, an option that is severely limited by her health and age? Politicians callously suggest she need only "hang in there" which is insulting to a woman in her golden years. She has ALREADY worked hard and sacrificed for 50+ years, expecting & promised that those decades of sacrifices would pay off in her retirement and old age. President Trump's trade wars are punishing American citizens and destabilizing the economy. As your constituent, I urge you to use common sense and stop the damage these tariffs are doing to the economy and the American people.
