Khalil is a "threat to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States," said the official, noting that this calculation was the driving force behind the arrest. "The allegation here is not that he was breaking the law," said the official.
The arrest of Mahmoud Khalil—whose only “crime” was speaking his mind—is an insane abuse of power.

Per Homeland Security & State Department sources, the Trump administration is staking its entire case to deport Mahmoud Kahlil not on whether he broke a law, but on Secretary of State Marco Rubio “personally” deciding Khalil would “compromise” US foreign policy.
Khalil has a green card, not a tourist visa, and that this is the administration trying to see what they can get away with.
Soon they’ll say it’s illegal to protest genocide. It’s illegal to leave a protest against genocide. It’s illegal to be near a protest against genocide. It’s illegal to appear to support Palestinian right to life. It’s illegal to go to college. It’s illegal to be.
