The so called Big Besutiful Bill makes changes to student loans that will hurt your constituents and harm our excellent economically productive universities and colleges. By capping Grad Plus loans you are going to kill the dreams of young people who wish to contribute by becoming doctors, nurses, dentists, lawyers, architects, and engineers. You are going to hobble Tulane, LSU, Loyola, Dillard, and Xavier. You are going hurt Louisiana. REMOVE the provision capping Grad Plus Loans. I was a first generation professional. We had education and brains but no money. I used student loans, scholarships, and work study to pay for college. I remember how hard it was before Grad Plus. My father had to sign a loan against our house securing my educational loans. Toward the end of my education Congress passed Grad Plus. It was a miracle for me and many other classmates who were first gen professionals. There are ways to address college affordability. Congress in the so called Big Beautiful Bill attempts to use the wrong tools to fix the student loan crisis. Instead of consulting with experts and going slow to find a viable solution that will work you all foolishly ram a giant cut down our throats through reconciliation. Dysfunctional. Capping Grad Plus Loans is a dream killer. It will also mean many great doctors and lawyers will be cut off from opportunities. Tulane, Dillard, Xavier, LSU, Loyola, and other universities bring so much to Louisiana. They are massive employers. They attract and retain talent. They cannot provide excellent life changing education if their students cannot get loans to cover the real cost of a world class education. Do not kill your engines of growth by capping Grad Plus Loans! This reconciliation bill is garbage. And it hurts your constituents. You work for the people of Louisiana. If you do not work to protect students and universities in Louisiana by ensuring access to loans, we the voters will ensure you will not serve another term. We will vote you out.
