I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent to urge you to vigorously defend Ohio’s constitutional authority to oversee and administer our own elections.
Recent trends suggesting increased federal intervention into state election processes are deeply concerning. Under the U.S. Constitution, the power to manage elections belongs primarily to the states. Any attempt by the federal executive branch to overreach or centralize this power is not only a violation of federalist principles but a threat to the tailored security measures Ohio has worked hard to implement.
Furthermore, I want to express my frustration with the persistent and unsubstantiated rhetoric regarding widespread election fraud. These claims are not supported by data. Even conservative-leaning analyses, such as those from the Heritage Foundation, show that out of hundreds of millions of votes cast nationally, instances of proven fraud are infinitesimal. In Ohio, our systems are secure, and our results are verifiable.
I am asking you to:
- Oppose federal mandates that seek to strip the Ohio Secretary of State and local boards of elections of their decision-making power.
- Refuse all federal requests for Ohio’s voter registration rolls. The sharing of detailed voter data—including partial Social Security numbers and driver's license info—with federal agencies creates unnecessary security risks and undermines the privacy of Ohio citizens.
- Publicly affirm the integrity of Ohio’s existing election results to maintain public trust.
- Reject rhetoric that undermines our democratic process without evidence.
Ohioans deserve an election system that is easy to vote and hard to cheat, managed by Ohioans—not dictated by Washington D.C.
