Oppose Trump's secret police
To: Rep. Baumgartner
From: A constituent in Spokane Valley, WA
January 26
ICE agents in Minneapolis and elsewhere are using tactics similar to that of secret police in countries with authoritarian leaders. They are hiding their identities with masks, detaining US citizens at will, entering homes without judicial warrants, and intentionally injuring peaceful protestors. These tactics are causing a breakdown of trust between the public and immigration enforcement, leading to a dangerous cycle of protests and conflict in the streets.
Whenever ICE agents are reported to have hurt people, the Trump administration blames the victims and refuses to investigate the agents, instead investigating the victims themselves in order to manufacture a justification for it. Victims can't even find out which agents are responsible because their identities are hidden. This effectively puts ICE above the law.
Freedom-loving Americans do not want an unaccountable secret police force roaming the streets, intimidating and harassing people. Even if their intention is only to find and deport illegal immigrants, the result is that U.S. citizens are being harmed in the process.
I ask you to oppose ICE's secret policing tactics and conduct meaningful congressional oversight to restore the public's confidence in immigration enforcement.
