As your constituent, I implore you to take action against the Data Centers sprouting up all around Virginia, which are polluting our communities and driving up energy prices with impunity. Data Centers must pay their own energy bills instead of passing those costs onto citizens. Virginians are experiencing job shortages and increasing costs of living. Adding skyrocketing utility bills to the mix is untenable and will force many folks into dire situations that are entirely preventable. Dominion Energy should not be allowed to increase rates without justification, let alone pass the buck to regular customers. If they are forced to make infrastructure changes to support Data Centers, those costs must not be subsidized by customers. They should be paid for by the Data Centers requiring the changes. And further, we know these behemoths wreak havoc on local ecosystems and pollution levels. So we’re signing up to let these greedy companies make us all sick in addition to making us broke if we allow this to continue. Simply putting a cap on how much they’re allowed to pollute is not enough; they must be held to strict standards to not affect air, soil, or other environmental impacts whatsoever. And that rule cannot be altered by future administrations without a public vote. Data Centers said they’d create jobs. They don’t. Certainly not enough to justify the additional costs and pollution they introduce to our communities. Please use the authority of your office to put a stop to this madness. Ensure Data Centers do not impact local utility prices, stop Dominion Energy and similar utility companies from passing on costs to regular consumers. Force Data Centers to account for how many local jobs they actually create. And prevent Data Centers from polluting our communities. No amount of AI Slop is worth all this!
