On Saturday, February 22, 2025, Donald Trump announced Dan Bongino's appointment as Deputy
FBI Director. The Deputy Director is responsible for the FB's daily operations and oversees domestic and international intelligence.
Bongino, a conservative podcaster known for his vocal support of conspiracy theories, has no FBI experience and has been outspoken about "cleaning up" the FBI. FBI Director Kash Patel has already announced plans to relocate 1,500 FBI employees from Washington.
By installing Trump loyalists like Bongino, the administration demonstrates their intent to turn the FBl into a political arm of the White House and discard its actual purpose of law enforcement. The FBI is responsible for protecting the American people from domestic and international terror, fighting public corruption, and investigating federal civil rights violations. It also has has vast surveillance powers and capabilities. Bongino's appointment appears to put both the FBI's mission and the privacy and safety of civilians at risk.
Bongino's appointment does not require
Congressional approval. However, Congress has oversight responsibility over the FBI and should be fulfilling its role as a co-equal branch of government by holding investigative hearings to learn more about what Patel and Bongino plan for the agency.
I’m asking for your action. Demand your fellow members of Congress to provide oversight of the FBI.
