Oppose Sanctions Waivers That Reward Russia's War on Ukraine

To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis, Rep. McDowell

October 9

The Treasury Department's decision to waive sanctions on Russia's energy sector is a betrayal of every commitment this country made to Ukraine and to holding Putin accountable for his 2022 invasion. Lifting these restrictions rewards aggression, plain and simple. I want you to publicly oppose this sanctions waiver and push for its reversal. Zelenskyy said it best: "Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged." Diesel prices are a real problem — $6.28 a gallon is crushing truckers, farmers, and families — but handing Putin a lifeline is not a solution. It's a concession. Trump himself signed legislation just last month to tighten restrictions on Russian energy exports. Reversing course this fast, this completely, demands scrutiny and a congressional response. Stand up and demand answers about what drove this reversal. The American people deserve to know why sanctions that took years to build were waived in a single Friday announcement.
